How NumberPunch Works

Pick Your Calculator

Choose from 7 specialized calculators organized by trade — material volume, surface area, structural, landscaping, electrical, and plumbing. Each calculator is purpose-built for a specific job, not a generic one-size-fits-all tool.

Enter Your Measurements

Type in your dimensions using feet, inches, or metric. Select your material type, adjust for waste and compaction, and add cost per unit for instant price estimates. Preset modes for common projects like driveways, patios, and walkways save you time on repeat jobs.

Get Your Estimate

Results show volume in cubic yards, weight in tons, cost in dollars, and how many bags or units you need to order. Copy your results, text them to your supplier, or add them to your running tally to build a complete material list across multiple calculators.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate how much gravel I need?

Measure the length, width, and depth of your area in feet. Multiply all three to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. Our gravel calculator does this automatically and also estimates weight in tons and cost based on your local price per yard or per ton.

How many bags of concrete do I need for a 10x10 slab?

A 10x10 foot slab at 4 inches thick requires about 1.23 cubic yards of concrete. That is approximately 56 bags of 80-pound concrete mix or 74 bags of 60-pound mix. Use our concrete bags calculator for exact quantities based on your slab dimensions and thickness.

What is the difference between cubic yards and tons?

Cubic yards measure volume while tons measure weight. The conversion depends on the material — one cubic yard of gravel weighs about 1.35 tons, while one cubic yard of mulch weighs only about 0.4 tons. Our material weight calculator handles these conversions using standard material densities.

How do I calculate square footage for an irregularly shaped room?

Break the room into rectangles, triangles, or circles. Calculate the area of each section separately, then add them together. Our square footage calculator supports rectangles, L-shapes, trapezoids, and circles to handle most room configurations.

Can I use these calculators offline?

Yes. NumberPunch is a Progressive Web App. Visit the site once, and the calculators are cached on your device. You can use them without an internet connection — perfect for job sites with poor cell reception.

Are these calculators accurate for professional use?

Yes. Every calculator uses standard industry formulas and material densities. Results include waste factors and are consistent with what you would calculate by hand. We recommend always adding 5-10 percent overage for cuts and waste on any material order.
